Advanced Cancer Treatments, Close to Home
No two people or their cancers are exactly alike. That means no two people receive the exact same cancer treatment. At Mount Auburn Hospital, we personalize your treatment plan so you get the care and services that are right for you.
From day one, our doctors work with you to create a plan that fits your specific situation. We consider your cancer diagnosis, current health and medical history. We also take into account your treatment goals and personal preferences.

Cancer Treatments We Offer
We are a Harvard-affiliated hospital. That means we help train the doctors and health care providers of tomorrow. Our experts are up to date on the latest treatments and offer some of the most advanced cancer therapies and technology. As our patient, you’ll benefit from our efforts to advance medicine and treatments that are among the most effective available.
Chemotherapy, or chemo, uses medication to destroy cancer cells or slow their growth.
Hormone therapy slows or stops cancer cell growth by blocking or removing hormones from your body. In some cases, we may also give you hormones. Hormone therapy is often part of treatment for breast, ovarian, prostate and thyroid cancers.
Immunotherapy is also known as biologic therapy. It involves the use of medications or synthetic versions of immune system proteins to help your immune system fight cancer.
Targeted therapy uses medications that target unique parts of cancer cells or other cells that help cancer cells grow.
Radiation therapy, including brachytherapy, destroys cancer cells with high-energy waves you can’t see or feel.
Clinical Trials
Clinical trials evaluate new cancer treatments or new ways of using existing treatments. If you’re eligible for a trial and we think you may benefit, we help you weigh the potential advantages and risks of taking part. Search our open clinical trial offerings.
When you participate in a clinical trial, you can trust that you get the best cancer treatment options available. Placebos (inactive medicines) are rarely used in cancer clinical trials. They never replace standard treatment.
At Mount Auburn Hospital, we participate in local, national and international research, including the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group. This organization designs and conducts cancer research. It works with adults who have cancer or are at risk for developing the disease.
A Healing, Helping Environment
We strive to make your treatment as comfortable and convenient as possible. You’ll find iPads onsite that you can use during treatments or between appointments. They’re loaded with reading material and games to help you pass time.
You may also choose to relax in our quiet, contemplative solarium overlooking the Charles River or stop into the Herzstein Wellness Center. The Center offers guided imagery, chair yoga and other helpful programs.
To make things easy for you, we offer handicap-accessible chairs and exam tables. They feature multiple positions and are found in our treatment areas.
Cancer Care
If you have cancer, we have the services and specialties to support you at every stage of your cancer journey.
