Insemination
Insemination Services at Mount Auburn Hospital
We are a queer and trans-affirming practice and are here to provide conception support to all families and individuals when donor sperm is needed for pregnancy to occur.
We offer 365-day coverage by a Certified Nurse Midwife in our Arlington office location and are here to guide you through the logistical, medical and emotional aspects of growing your family.
Your First Appointment: What To Expect
You will begin with a consultation with one of our midwives to review your preferences, priorities and medical history.
In some rare cases, you may need a higher level of surveillance in order to become pregnant and would be ineligible for care through our practice. If you are not sure if you are eligible, call our office and we will happily answer any questions.
During that first visit we discuss:
- How to optimize your pre-pregnancy health
- How to monitor your menstrual cycle and predict ovulation
- Reviewing the IUI process and resources for obtaining donor sperm
- Addressing any concerns or questions about the process
- Developing a personalized plan
If you are due for an annual exam (have not had one in a year or more) or are in need of a pap smear, you may schedule an annual exam at our office or with your regular GYN provider.
If you've had recent testing/exam, please bring your medical records with you or send them to us via MyChart.
Intrauterine insemination, or IUI, is a simple procedure where specially-prepared sperm is placed in the uterus using a small catheter in a process similar to a pap smear. When using frozen sperm IUI increased the chances of pregnancy.
In addition to IUI we offer full-scope well-person care in our office including gynecological care, sexual and reproductive healthcare including pre-pregnancy, prenatal, birth and post-birth care.
We prescribe medication to help improve ovulation when that is needed, but if close monitoring of ovulation through blood work and ultrasounds are needed, we refer to a reproductive endocrinology clinic.
As midwives, we are skilled at providing trauma-informed, thoughtful, individualized care, and strongly believe in the value of relationship-based care.
We would be thrilled to continue this relationship into your pregnancy and birth as well as postpartum and gynecological care.
We are also happy to help with referral to other prenatal care providers and recommend a prenatal appointment within the first ten weeks of pregnancy.
