Coursework, rotations and time commitment
After June 30, 2025, Mount Auburn Hospital’s Dietetic Internship accreditation through ACEND will be discontinued. The internship will not be participating in DICAS for the 2024-2025 academic year.
The Mount Auburn Hospital dietetic internship is a hands-on experience with rotations in a wide range of settings, from inpatient clinical to outpatient to food service.
The full-time, 10-month program begins the Tuesday after Labor Day and ends the following June. Interns attend class and participate in rotations five days a week, typically from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
Daily schedules will vary depending upon the rotation, work responsibilities and preceptors’ schedules. Interns will work some weekends and holidays.
Interns spend Mondays in class either at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center or virtually with learners from other Boston-dietetic internship programs.
Time required for homework and projects varies among rotations. Some rotations involve no outside work, while others may require up to 10 hours a week.
Interns receive one week vacation during Christmas, plus eight holidays and up to four sick or personal days.
Interns must complete all written and performance assignments and competencies to the satisfaction of the internship faculty within the allotted time period.
Verification of completion of the Mount Auburn Hospital dietetic internship will be given to all students who successfully complete the internship, including coursework and the program’s supervised practice components.
Most clinical and community rotations start between 7:00 am and 9:00 am.
The majority of the internship rotations take place at Mount Auburn Hospital. These include:
Interns have the opportunity to visit other facilities during off-site rotations.
After their final rotation at Mount Auburn Hospital, interns are ready for their final challenge: Taking over a staff dietitian's full assignment for five weeks.
