At Mount Auburn Hospital, our social workers provide counseling and help with care planning to patients and family members. Our clinical social workers are a key part of your comprehensive care team at the hospital and after you go home.

We give you guidance to prepare for and better understand future lifestyle changes.

Ongoing Support

As a Mount Auburn Hospital patient, you can get social work services any time you receive care. Our social work team works with clinic, doctor’s office, emergency room and hospital patients.

Our team specializes in many areas of clinical care. This lets us meet your needs. Our social workers hold master’s degrees. Our areas of expertise include:

Resources & Services to Live Life Well

Your social worker helps you access the right resources. You may benefit from options like crisis intervention and individual and group therapy. This can assist you in dealing with disease diagnosis and loss.

Other social work services we provide include:

  • Assist with financial and insurance concerns such as MassHealth, disability or prescription coverage.
  • Assist with legal and ethical issues including guardianship, advanced directives or decisions regarding treatment.
  • Conduct assessments for potential domestic violence and neglect or abuse of an elder, child or disabled patient.
  • Education and support group programs for you and your family. These sessions are staffed by a licensed clinical social worker trained in group facilitation.

Our social work team also includes specialized psychiatric services. These include:

Cancer Patient and Caregiver Support

Life Resource Center

Our outpatient clinic provides psychotherapy to Mount Auburn Hospital patients living with chronic illness. Social workers provide supportive treatment to you and your family. Women's Health Liaison Service

Our social workers work with a consulting psychiatrist. We offer social and mental health treatment to women's health patients. We help you manage challenges related to reproductive functioning. This includes infertility, miscarriage, pregnancy and the postpartum period. Call the Social Work Department at 617-499-5050, Monday–Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm for details.
