Our Social Work Services
As a patient at Mount Auburn Hospital, our clinical social workers are available to work with you and your medical providers. Our compassionate team of social workers are able to assist in helping you to understand your medical diagnosis, securing appropriate community resources, and understanding possible lifestyle changes.
Our social work staff members are Masters level clinicians who are licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. They have chosen to work in a hospital setting in order to support individuals and families managing through illness.

As a Mount Auburn Hospital patient, social work services are available when you receive treatment. Our highly skilled team specializes in many areas of clinical care. This allows us to meet your individual needs.

Resources & Support
After an assessment, your social worker will work with you to create a care plan specifically designed for your individual medical and recovery needs. Local resources can be valuable after your discharge in supporting your care and may include crisis intervention, individual therapy or group counseling. Other social work services we provide include:
- Assistance with financial and insurance concerns
- Assistance with legal and ethical issues including guardianship, advanced directives or support with medical decision making
- Clinical assessment and referrals for concerns related to domestic violence
- Clinical assessment and referrals for assistance around neglect or abuse of an elder, child, or disabled person
- Food and housing insecurity
- Referrals to drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers for inpatient detox and other levels of care
- Assistance with services to support your independence at home
Additional social work supports include:
- Cancer Patient and Caregiver Support: Oncology social workers are available to facilitate support groups for patients undergoing treatment or recovering from cancer. Patients can access individual counseling and support group resources for themselves and their families while coping with cancer.
- Dementia Caregivers Support Group: Led by a social worker, this monthly support group is an excellent way for caregivers to connect with others. The small group provides an opportunity for attendees to focus discuss concerns/challenges and ways to maintain their own self-care.
- Women's Health Liaison Service: For women who are experiencing issues related to obstetrical or gynecological concerns, Mount Auburn Hospital offers counseling and support for patients. Our social workers are available to help you manage the challenges during treatment for endometriosis, fertility concerns, pregnancy loss, and the perinatal/postpartum period.
