Five Local Organizations Benefit from Community Grants
Cambridge, MA – As part of its long-standing commitment to the health of the residents of Cambridge and the surrounding community, Mount Auburn Hospital has awarded $84,000 in grants to five non-profit organizations.
The grants are part of Mount Auburn’s Community Benefits Program and are intended to support programs that address community health priorities and meaningfully impact populations and community members within the Mount Auburn service area.
“We are committed to the health and well-being of residents of Cambridge and surrounding towns,” said Ed Huang, MD, president, Mount Auburn Hospital. “We are proud to support our community partners in their efforts and to put our resources behind their work to have a greater impact on the communities we serve.”
Mount Auburn has awarded $20,000 grants to the following three organizations:
-
Adolescent Consultation Services (ACS): Cambridge and Waltham – Mental Health Services for Teens
Funding will support ACS’s THRIVE Group Treatment Program (Teen Health, Relationships, Independence, Vision, Empowerment) which is their primary mental health treatment group designed for teens who are at elevated risk for court involvement or are already court-involved.
-
De Novo Center for Healing and Justice: Cambridge and Somerville - Culturally-Informed Psychological Counseling for Low-Resourced People
Funding for this program will continue to help address the mental health needs for members of the community who face challenges in access to care and help by other means. Clients receive a full range of free or low-cost mental health services, and case management supports, and develop skills to function more productively and self-sufficiently.
-
Lamplight Women’s Literacy Center: Arlington – Healthcare Careers Pathway
Funding will support the Healthcare Careers Pathway program, which seeks to support career advancement for entry level healthcare workers and aid individuals to successfully pass the Test of Essential Academic Skills necessary for entry to nursing degree programs.
Mount Auburn Hospital has awarded $12,000 grants to the following two organizations:
-
Waltham Fields Community Farm: Waltham - Produce Prescription Program
Funding will help Waltham Fields Community Farm supply a 20-week CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) share of produce to up to 30 participants. Through a partnership with Charles River Community Health, patients/families who are at high risk for developing a chronic disease are identified and have the opportunity to enroll in the program. Participants are then able to
take advantage of a free produce share during the growing season.
- Community Day Center of Waltham: Waltham - Addressing Substance Use in the Homeless Community
Funding supports a part-time, in-house substance use counselor who will provide focused support to two key client groups with active alcohol and substance use challenges: individuals seeking housing who are not yet “housing ready” and newly housed clients at risk of losing their apartments. This program will offer clients further pathways to recovery and peer support to enable them to become “house ready.
