Mount Auburn Hospital names Steven Kapfhammer as Chief Operating Officer

Cambridge, Mass. – Mount Auburn Hospital has named Steven Kapfhammer, MHA, as Chief Operating Officer. For the past fifteen years, Kapfhammer has been President and Chief Operating Officer of the North Shore Physicians Group, an affiliate of Mass General Brigham and Salem Hospital which consisted of 1200 employees, including more than 350 physicians and 135 advanced practice providers in 30 locations.

“We are delighted that Steve has joined us and his many years of executive leadership experience will benefit our Mount Auburn community,” said Ed Huang, MD, President of Mount Auburn Hospital. “Steve has proven operational success with his strategic vision, development of strong teams, and fostering a culture of respect and collaboration. He is uniquely qualified for his new role, with substantial experience in clinical hospital operations, medical staff relations and hospital management. We welcome him to the team.”

During his time with MGB, Kapfhammer concurrently served as Chief Operating Officer of Partners Community Physician Organization from 2018-2020. Prior to MGB, he served as the Executive Vice President for Hallmark Health System’s Melrose-Wakefield Hospital from 2003-2008. He began his career at Melrose Wakefield in 1994 where he was the director of Medical Staff Services and later held various senior executive roles for Hallmark Health System.

Kapfhammer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the University of Louisville in Kentucky and a Master of Hospital and Health Administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is active in his community, serving on several boards including the North Shore YMCA.
