Toni Golen, MD, Joins Mount Auburn Hospital as Chief Medical Officer

Golen Comes to Mount Auburn from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center

Cambridge, Mass. – Toni Golen, MD, has joined Mount Auburn Hospital as Chief Medical Officer. Golen comes to Mount Auburn from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston, where she has been a practicing physician in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the last 28 years.

“Dr. Golen brings outstanding clinical experience and a strong reputation for operational expertise to Mount Auburn,” said Ed Huang, MD, interim president, Mount Auburn Hospital. “She is a highly skilled clinical leader who is committed to delivering safe, high-quality patient care, and we are thrilled to have her join Mount Auburn Hospital.

As Chief Medical Officer, Golen will partner with the hospital’s clinical providers to ensure the interests of patients and physicians are represented, collaborate with administrative and senior leaders to enhance hospital operations and oversee the hospital’s quality and safety efforts. Golen will be responsible for physician leader development and provider recruitment and engagement – including burnout avoidance, academic affairs, and medical education – and will actively manage relationships with outside provider groups.

Since 2011, Golen has served as Vice Chair of Quality, Safety, and Performance Improvement of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She was Interim Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 2018 until 2022.

Golen is an accomplished researcher and author whose work has been published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and The Joint Commission on Quality and Patient Safety as well as other peer reviewed journals. Golen has been an active member of the Beth Israel Lahey Health Performance Network’s (BILHPN) Medical Management and Policy Committee and also served on BILHPN’s Board of Directors. She has been the Vice Chair of BIDMC’s Medical Executive Committee since 2020.

Golen earned her undergraduate degree from Union College and her medical degree from New York Medical College.
