Mount Auburn Hospital Receives Top Quality and Safety Rating from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
Mount Auburn Hospital earns five-out-of-five-star designation
Cambridge, MA – Mount Auburn Hospital has received five-out-of-five stars from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in its annual quality and safety assessment of more than 4,500 hospitals across the country. The Overall Hospital Quality Star rating was awarded to only 13.5 percent of 4,586 hospitals in the United States.
“To be in the top 13 percent of hospitals and receive a five-star rating from the CMS demonstrates that we are successfully delivering on our commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for our patients,” said Jeanette Clough, president of Mount Auburn Hospital. “I’m very proud of our committed staff who work tirelessly to ensure our patients needs are being met safely and with the highest quality care.”
The Overall Hospital Quality Star rating summarizes a variety of measures across five areas of quality into a single star rating for each hospital. Once reporting thresholds are met, a hospital’s overall star rating is calculated using only those measures for which data are available, with the average being about 37 measures. This year, the CMS established a new 2021 methodology in five measure groups: Mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care. This data, found under the CMS’ Hospital Compare tool, is available for consumers to help them compare performance measure information and make informed decisions about where to go for healthcare.
